Ruby Bridges was one of the first black people to stand up and be heard. She helped end segregation at Frantz Elementary School, which was a white school. This was not easy; she had to face hatred and discrimination. She had to be brave and determined

It was important to the civil rights movement because it is how a black girl goes to a white school and doesn't give up. She could have just left and nothing would have changed but she kept going even though people would say bad things to her she would still pray for them everyday.
