Mrs. Moon passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 in Nacogdoches. She was born on July 7, 1946 in Port Author, Tx.

Carol was born in Port Arthur, the daughter of Billie & Ruth Noble Scott and raised in Groves, Texas. One evening, while attending a gathering of their friends in one of their back yards, a dapper young man drove up in a 1956 Ford and when Carol realized he was pulling into the back yard, she surprisingly found out why. She yelled “and it has a RADIO”! That was the moment she met Donald Moon. The two of them soon became good friends and by the time she was to graduate, upon Don asking her parents, they agreed for her to marry the man of her dreams. She and Don were joined together in that union in their little church, with their family’s blessings. For the next 60 years, they remained by each other’s side, adding to their family with the arrival of their daughter, Deborah and son, Michael and when she was blessed to become a grandmother, she fit into that role perfectly. Her grands were her biggest joy.

Through the years, Don’s work took them to many places around the states including cities in Texas, California, Utah, and eventually to Maryland. During these moves, Carol often found herself working for the cities they lived in and in 1997 when they decided Texas would be their final move, her boss who was the Sheriff in Maryland, made a call to his friend, Sheriff Joe Evans. He was requesting a job for Carol and Joe brought her in to meet her. It didn’t take long for him to realize she was too nice to be working in a jail! He then called the county judge, Ocie Westmorland and her job as an assistant in the Nacogdoches County Commissioners Court was secured. Carol remained there for the next 15 years where she made many friends and her smile and warm personality greeted all those who came into her office.

Working in the cities of our great country, Carol’s love of history, particularly government history, blossomed. She never missed an opportunity to venture into Washington DC with her sister-in-law, Joyce to find new places to see and to re-visit her favorite ones; although on occasion, they found themselves in places they might not should have been able to get to, but you only live once and who wouldn’t enjoy sitting in the room with the senators and congress members for breakfast! She never tired of reading of the United States and the history as it was depicted by those who lived through it. Her shelves were lined with a multitude of history books that she so lovingly collected over time. Don and Carol’s adventures together were many but their favorite stop was St. Simons Island in Georgia, located along the Atlantic Ocean. Carol had many things she enjoyed but would explain that she never went higher than her hands could reach, spent time around a fire but did not like to be too close because she was afraid of it, and never wandered into the beautiful oceans that she loved so deeply. Don always made jokes about these exact things, but he understood the adoration she had for them…..but from a distance.

Carol will forever be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who always put her family first, loved those around her endlessly and smiled for everyone even if her day was not so bright. She was kind, gentle, understanding and loyal and the memories left behind will serve as a ray of light to those she loved the most.

Carol is survived by her loving husband of almost 60 years, Donald Moon of Nacogdoches; children, Deborah Munt & husband Karl of Midland and Michael Moon of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Lauren Munt, Samantha Munt, Robert Munt, Nicholas Munt, Mary Frances Moon and Alaina Moon; sister, Mary Standley of Waller, Texas; sisters-in-law, Joyce Moon, Sherry Hahn & husband, Clint and Debbie Broussard & husband, Rodney and brother-in-law, Buddy Mann.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Janice Ballard; sisters in law, Diane Mann and Barbara Turk & husband, George and her brother-in-law, Sonny Moon.
